The Loewen Garden Farmers’ Market is still a little bit of an undiscovered* gem on our sunny overcrowded island of Singapore. Located just a hop skip and a jump away from the ever overpopulated Dempsey Hill, this quiet little enclave boasts good food, kind folk, and a lovely laid back atmosphere.

The ingenious idea was thought up by the team over at The Pantry (a cooking school and cafe hidden in the lush greenery of Loewen Garden) who wanted to create a simple setting where people could kick back and relax and enjoy food simply made and the company of fellow folk who relish the opportunity to escape city life. There’s even a trampoline in the corner for the cutie patooties that come tumbling out of the dance school that’s tucked away in Loewen Gardens.

Some favourites from Saturday’s eating expedition include a delicious sparkling rose and hearty paella from the Spanish stall, smashing pumpkin and morello cherry pies from the brilliant boys behind Windowsill Pies, and the savoury meat pies from The Pantry.

If you’re expecting something along the lines of Portobello Market or the Farmers’ Market in Union Square, I’m sorry to say you’ll be a tad disappointed by the size and selection on offer at the Loewen Garden Farmers’ Market. So do temper your expectations before you go, and remember that everything has to start somewhere. So this is a very good start for weekend markets in sg and a great way to spend a Saturday!

The Farmers’ Market
75 Loewen Road, Singapore 248844

*It doesn’t happen every weekend, so please check the schedule here.
*I say undiscovered because (1) you could get parking on a sunny Saturday morning and (2) there were no tissue paper packets “choping” seats at the tables.
